Special Opportunity During the
2015 Cold Harbor Lectures
Attend A Private Reenactment Of the Historic
Second Virginia Convention
"Give Me Liberty, Or..."
Well, you know the rest. Wouldn’t it be great if you could travel back in time and hear the “Voice of the Revolution” give that eloquent, soul-stirring impassioned speech that helped change the course of the world? Well you can, in a way.
Since 1976, St. John’s Church Foundation has presented historical reenactments at the original location of the Second Virginia Convention of March 1775 at St. John’s Church in Richmond. Professional actors in 1770s attire portray ten delegates, including Patrick Henry, Thomas Jefferson, and George Washington. The delegates engage in the debates and arguments of the Second Virginia Convention, which lead up to Patrick Henry’s immortal “Give me liberty or give me death!” speech. It is a thrilling and inspiring event to experience.
Normally, the Foundation puts on these performances during the summer months only. But I have reserved the actors for a private performance at 2:30pm, November 1, on the Sunday afternoon of the lectureship. Anyone attending the lectureship is welcome to come. Because of the expense of securing our own private performance, I am asking for a donation of $10 per person (or $10 per couple, or per family—if you have five kids, you still need only pay $10). If you cannot afford that, let me know and I will find a way to cover the cost. Anyone interested in paying more than that as a way of helping to fund this, your donation will be gladly accepted.
Enjoying a private performance like this is a rare opportunity which I hope you will take advantage of if you can. If you are interested in going and have any questions, please let me know. We will meet around 2:00pm at St. John’s Church, 2401 E. Broad Street, Richmond. You can contact me through the church website by clicking here.
